Tommaso e India: Matrimonio nel Cuore della Maremma

Having little time does not mean doing a bad job. On the contrary, sometimes having little time on the wedding shoot can be challenging to achieve a high quality result. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Tommaso and India, a couple passionate about photography who chose to rely on my style to capture the most significant moments of their big day.

When we first met, they were very clear: "We chose you because we like your style, we are very passionate about photography, we love 'stolen' moments, we really like Cartier-Bresson and Vivian Maier, and we know that you have had experience with reportage." My face lit up with a smile. Of course I have had reportage experience! I worked as a photojournalist for about 30 years, so I knew exactly what they were talking about.

Undoubtedly, Cartier-Bresson and Maier are also among my favorites. I like photography of the moment, perhaps even more than constructed photography. I accepted the challenge by telling them, "I will try, in the short time I have (only ceremony and the next hour), to create for you as realistic a photoreportage of your wedding day as possible."

And so it went.

La Tenuta Piani Rossi è un luogo stupendo per catturare fantastiche immagini di matrimonio ma l’orario della cerimonia mi ha “regalato” una difficoltà estrema: un forte controluce è rimasto per tutta la durata della cerimonia e la particolare conformazione della scena non mi permetteva di muovermi liberamente. Il fotogiornalismo non insegna solo a catturare un’immagine in un attimo, ma viene in soccorso anche quando hai un problema tecnico. Grazie all’esperienza e ai consigli dei colleghi più anziani, mi sono ricordato di un trucco semplice ma efficace: con l’aiuto della mia mano, ho aumentato la portata del paraluce dell’obiettivo per sopperire alla forte luce che entrava diretta nell’obiettivo. Questo piccolo accorgimento mi ha permesso di continuare a scattare senza compromettere la qualità delle immagini.

Credo che una delle scene più belle dei matrimoni sia l’incontro della sposa e dello sposo. È un momento toccante: a volte non si vedono da giorni e l’emozione traspare chiaramente dai loro occhi. Questo è un attimo che amo catturare. E poi ci sono le promesse, quei momenti in cui gli sposi si guardano negli occhi e leggono le loro promesse d’amore. C’è qualcosa di profondamente emotivo in quei sguardi che si catturano a vicenda, riempiendo il luogo d’amore. Un amore che, a volte, dovremmo sentire la necessità di esprimere sempre, ogni giorno che passa.

This is what I saw in Thomas and India's faces: a great and sincere love. Despite limited time and technical challenges, I managed to capture the true essence of their special day. And that is the magic of wedding photography: turning even the little time you have into unforgettable memories.
